For those of you who do not know, I get seasick and car sick extremely easily. Not only is it highly annoying but I miss out on all the boating my family does in the summer 😦 The last time I was actually on the boat has been years (I think I was still in college the last time I went). So I decided it was time to test my sea legs (perhaps I grew out of my sea sickness?). I also may have taken a large dose of Dramamine…
I’d give you a layout of the boat but I really don’t know anything about it except that it’s a 27-footer and has a cabin. What else do you really want to know?
Oh it has a steering wheel, duh, anything else?
The boat is docked at the 55th Marina, which is pretty awesome because you get some nice views of the Cleveland Skyline. However, it was really hazy on Sunday so I got some “just ok” pics of the skyline and a stupid sailboat got in my way!
My little sister had to teach both me and Manchild how to fish. Surprisingly, she knew her stuff! She even taught me how to put a minnow on my line. That’s pretty impressive for a 7 year old girl. Also impressive that after she showed me I did it myself….and then wiped my hands on my sister. Manchild did not know what a minnow was, but we brought him up to speed. It was his first time fishing and boating.
I am not sure where my step brother got his scuba gear at but it looks pretty cool. Also it came in handy because he could swim around and see if there were any fish nearby.
Our of everyone on the boat, I caught the most fish. A whopping 5 perch. They were all pretty tiny, so tiny that I threw the first one back. I also dropped him on the deck, whoops!
Manchild insisted that we take them home and cook them for dinner. Considering he didn’t know what a minnow was, I was pretty sure he didn’t know how to prepare the fish for dinner. (I snuck in a bowl of cereal when he wasn’t looking, shhh don’t tell)
But here is basically how it went. First, he looked up on youtube “how to clean fish”. Second, we made a trip to Target for a fillet knife, because the youtube video used one. Third, no fillet knives at Target so he decided to wing it. Fourth, re watch the video. Five, gut the fish. (I was actually pretty surprised he did this and I think he did it right). Although, it was all downhill after that. He tried to de-scale them and cut out the filets but it didn’t go so well. There was a lot of swearing coming from the kitchen at this point and complaints that the knives weren’t sharp enough so he eventually threw in the towel.
I see another fishing trip in his future just so he can learn how to clean fish.
In my future, I see myself on the next episode of Swamp People. I mean, I am practically a pro after catching a few perch, right?
Oh and no one got sick on the boat. Dramamine for the win!
