The Great NYE Race 5k

This race will forever go down as the hilliest 5K of my entire life. I have never realized how spoiled I am by running flat races in Cleveland. On New Year’s Eve I drove down to Stow (45 min drive) for a 5K and was warned that there was a hill. Umm yeah, I wish I had a picture of “the hill”, it was one large rolling hill and the course was down and back so yeah, I got to do it twice.

Too fast for the camera, thanks Beal!

My legs were not happy with the hilliness of this course. I definitely am claiming revenge on this race for 2012. I ended up running 23:48, a 7:40 pace, 6th in my age group. Not too bad for such a hilly course but I need to come back and see how I can do next year now that I know what to expect.

I originally wanted to do this race because I heard you get an Asics long sleeve pull over. Some races it is all about the shirt for me. However, I waited too long to register so they were out of a women’s small, medium and large 😦 I decided to try the men’s sizes and the smallest one they had was a men’s medium so I opted for that instead thinking it would be a little big. Well let’s just say I could easily wear it as a dress it is so long, if they sleeves weren’t so long I would actually consider it.

Looking forward to racing in 2012. Next race is the Chili Bowl in February.

P.S. training plan and marathon goal time announcement coming soon 🙂

  1. Bummer on the shirt, maybe you can regift or sell it on eBay 🙂

Sounds like a hilly nightmare. I had one of those on T-Giving last year. Only it was a lot of smaller hills.

  2. I don’t think we got that awesome of a shirt (if any) last year! I know we for sure got gloves and ear warmers.. but I honestly can’t remember a shirt!

And yes, that is one hilly 5k! You still rocked it though 🙂

  3. AHHHHHHHH sorry if my description was weak!!! The most I remember of it was hating it, hahaaaaa…not an ideal 5K course. Awesome job though!! 🙂

  4. You should come to Pittsburgh with us on Thanksgiving – the hills of that Turkey Trot puts these one to shame! It’s seriously ridiculous.
You did amazing with those hills – way to finish out the year!!!!!!!
