When we left my place to go walk I didn’t really know where he wanted to go. We could go down one way to all the nice houses by the lake, or we could drive to a nearby park. However, he just wanted to go down one of our normal running streets. It’s a busy main street with little to see, and you have to walk at least a mile before you get to the cute downtownish area. I’m not a picky person and was just happy to be moving, so off we went.
Ryan was being kinda quiet but I had just left one of my friends so I was chatting a mile a minute about some of the things we had talked about. Not long into our walk we passed the local high school and Ryan grabbed my hand and said he wanted to turn in and walk through the parking lot. Once again I didn’t think anything of it. There is a track there, a baseball field, and a big grassy area. I am not that familiar with that area so I thought maybe there was a walking trail over there that we were going to walk on. A couple steps later, Ryan turned to face me, grabbed both of my hands and said:
“About 3 years ago a girl sat next to me on a bus right here. I was heading to my first half-marathon, already extremely nervous. Once she sat down, I got even more nervous because I was in total awe of her. A minute later she left to join another bus with her friends. We never spoke in those few moments that she was next to me. Over time, our paths crossed again. Still, I never thought that I’d be standing here with her again, about to ask her this one important question…”
And as soon as he turned, grabbed my hands and started talking, I knew what he was going to do and the biggest happy tears of my life started falling.
He got down on one knee and said “Jess, will you marry me?”
Through my sobby happy tears I said “Yes!”
I was so happy and crying that I couldn’t even see the ring. I just hugged him. I’ve known for a while that he is the perfect one for me and the one that I wanted to marry.
I think after I finally put the ring on I had to sit down. I couldn’t believe it and kept crying because I was so happy.
And that dinner reservation at Momocho? Non-existent. In order to make sure I kept the day clear, Ryan just said we had reservations. Instead we went to Deagans and sat at the same table as our first date. It was perfect.
Since getting engaged, I have learned that I have the best friends in the entire world! I would almost go as far to say that they are more excited than I am. They are already telling me their tips and helping me plan, they are amazing and love how much they are there for me already and I didn’t even ask them to be in my wedding yet (but I will).
Right now my main concern is figuring out how to not cry at my wedding. I balled like a little baby when I got engaged. Any tips on keeping the water works at bay are greatly appreciated! Please feel free to share other tips as well, I am all ears. I will let you know of a date soon and trust me I will be blogging all about it. This is now a running/wedding blog 🙂
