If you saw my tweets on Sunday you might have thought I was going through a Bridezilla moment. I kinda hate that I just called myself a Bridezilla. But before we talk about Sunday’s awful registry experience, Let’s talk about Saturday’s awesome registry experience.
We decided this weekend would be a good time to start registering and headed to Crate and Barrel. It’s a smaller store so it was a good kick off to registering, without being overwhelmed. Bride Tip: Let’s the man scan! Most guys do not enjoy registering, letting them handle the gun keeps them occupied.
When we walked into Crate and Barrel, we were instantly helped. They immediately walked over to grab us a scanner, showed us how to use it and sent us on our way. We were free to roam the store and scan away. For our first registry experience, it was great. I’d say in under 45 mins (and 2 laps around the store, and multiple sit breaks) we were done and satisfied with what we scanned. Printed our registry off at the registry kiosk, handed in our scanner and we were done.
But not after some selfies in the giant mirror.
It was so quick and easy that we decided on Sunday morning we would go to Bed, Bath and Beyond to do some more registering. Especially while items were still fresh in our heads. I heard BBB has an awesome return policy as well as a large selection (we were planning on registering for A LOT there). When we walked in we were directed to the wedding area (a cold small office, with a broken computer). We waited a few minutes, the manager came over to introduce himself and said the wedding coordinator would come to help us. Couple mins turned into 15 but whatever. The wedding coordinator introduces herself then has to leave to go upstairs to use a computer because the one in the room doesn’t work. So we wait a couple more minutes.
Finally, she has all our information (we filled everything out online prior to coming in, otherwise who knows how long that would have taken) and hands us a bunch of books to go through. Much of the luggage, china and other dining items were not in store, you had to pick them out of a book (could have done that online, had I known). Finally, we were told she would take us around the store. We took this as, show us popular items and where certain departments were etc. Oh boy were we wrong!
For over 2 hours, we were walked around, showed items and basically had to decide, on the spot, whether we wanted them or not. No time to discuss or talk it over as a couple. Not once did she leave us or even let us scan on our own. Even went as far as to scan things that were “popular registry items” or “things most brides like”. Maybe I was wrong but I thought that this was our registry and we could scan for things, we as a couple wanted. This was a HUGE waste of our day and a horrible registry experience. After looking at wedding forums, I learned that this is common for BBB now.
We were both pretty mad about this experience and wrote an email explaining our experience and how disappointed we were. The next day, all of the items on our registry had been deleted! We had already decided we were going to take our business elsewhere but were surprised to see them delete our registry. My advice, if you really want to register at BBB, do so online. Don’t waste your time in their store.
Since then, I have looked into registering at other places such as Kohls, who carries similar brands as BBB and also Target. I mean, who doesn’t love shopping at Target. But Target now let’s you register from your iPhone!!!
You can add to, delete from and update your registry at any Target Store, online or on mobile. Use the Target iPhone app’s barcode scanner in multiple scan mode to add new items fast.
How cool is that? You don’t even need a scanner, you already have one, your phone!
So tell me your registering stories, good or bad. What’s 1 thing you registered for that you love and get a lot of use of and what’s 1 thing you registered for and never use.
