Cleveland Marathon Training Week 13: Still Recovering

Geez can you believe I am still recovering from that Death Cold! Sheesh. I relaxed, slept, took meds and after a week I still wasn’t 100%. Actually right now is probably the best I’ve felt and I’d say I’m at 85% now. If someone around you has a cold, RUN the other way and SANITIZE EVERYTHING. I still can’t believe how much this cold took out of me.

So I had a pretty unproductive training week since I am still recovering and somehow developed an awesome cough in the meantime. Still planning to run the Athens half marathon on Sunday though. (Ryan is running the full! No pressure Ryan but I hope we are celebrating a PR Party when you are done!)

Monday: Sick
Tuesday: mini speedwork sesh. 1 mile WU, 4-800s at 3:18, 3:20, 3:21 and 3:19. 1 mile CD
Wednesday: Sick all over again (developed cough)
Thursday: finally feeling better. Spin 45 mins.
Friday: Rest day
Saturday: long run, 12 miles at 8:25 pace
Sunday: 6 miles

Total Mileage: 23 miles

I had planned on doing a mini taper around now to give my legs so rest and avoid injury so I guess technically this death cold actually came at a good time. I do feel better and better everyday so this cold should be completely gone fairly soon. Luckily, I should be able to jump back into training with some minor adjustments to my training plan.

  1. Glad you’re finally feeling better! I’m so nervous that I didn’t get sick enough this winter and it’s going to sneak up on me.

    Good luck on your half! As usual, I’m in awe of you.

    I’m not signing up for the Cleveland anything this year, I heard lots of scary stories from last year. I’m hoping to go down and watch/cheer this year and see for myself that it’s not an “everyone drops like flies” situation. 🙂

  2. Sounds like we had the same cold because mine turned into an awful cough, too. It was the worst!
    I’m glad you’re starting to feel better – you have to be 100% to cheer Ryan on to his PR!!

  3. I’m getting more and more excited for the half marathon as time goes on even though I still have many long training runs ahead of me!

    Being sick does indeed suck. During the Official Blogger Meetup I was in the midst of a terrible cold, which is why I was a bit subdued during the entire event. (I hope I didn’t get any of you sick…) Fortunately it’s almost gone now. I’m so sick of having to blow my nose constantly while running and I’m glad that all of us are on the mend as we get to be a month or so away from race day!
