I have good news! BODHI GOT HIS CAST OFF! No more spending 15 minutes to prepare Bodhi to go outside and tying multiple plastic bags to his leg to keep his cast dry! He’s still getting adjusted to having use of that leg but he’s doing really well and full healed!
He couldn’t stop licking his leg the first day and he was extra cuddly and sleepy from being at the vet all day.
Oh but you probably want to know who the winner of the giveaway is!!!!!
The winner was chosen using Random.org and that person is……
Congrats! Send me and email at email@example.com and I’ll get you set up! (Yes mojamala and mojamala2 were already taken in gmail!)
I’ve managed to stay fairly healthy so far for 2014, we are still 13 days in so keep your fingers crossed. Let’s not discuss the allergic reaction I had to chapstick yesterday and today.
However, Bodhi has not stayed so healthy. Not only did he break his leg on the first day of the year but he also got neutered and then got a hard cast on. (his first cast was just to hold him over for a few days.)
He’s a little drugged in that picture.
After he broke his leg, I bought him a new bed because his other 2 were not cutting it. Or maybe it’s just because he’s spoiled. He can get in and out a lot easier with the new bed. Even if his cast does get caught on it.
Ryan had lots of snow days so Bodhi had lots of cuddle time.
He’s discovered sleeping on his back while smashed between my legs is the best position for him. He can rest his cast on my leg like this.
I thought most toys would be out of his reach for awhile but instead he manages to get to them inside his cone. I thought he would be a baby about the cone but he seems to think it’s normal. Thankfully he only needs to keep it on for 10 more days.
If Ryan and I weren’t spoiling him enough, the in-laws bought him a baby blanket this weekend.
10 days til Bodhi gets the cone off and 7 weeks til he gets the cast off.
First let’s start with how awesome New Year’s Eve was. I had a low key night with 3 of my favorite people (Ryan, Bill & Crystal) and couldn’t have asked for a better night. We started off the night with dinner at Cork & Cleaver. I admit looking at the menu I wasn’t super excited, however, the food was phenomenal. I cannot wait to go back.
After dinner the snow was coming down which was no problem for us because we were staying in for the night. We instantly changed into comfy clothes, opened some beers and sat down for some cards against humanity.
After hours of laughing over cards against humanity, we watched the ball drop and then finished the night by watching the Christmas SNL with Jimmy Fallon and Justin Timberlake…for the second time. 3 of us passed out on the couch by 2am, oops make that 4, Bodhi passed out too.
Bodhi and I eventually moved to the bedroom and for the first time ever we let Bodhi sleep in bed with us so that he wouldn’t disturb our guests while they slept. He did awesome and slept like a champ between us.
New Years Day morning I had signed up for a spinning class that I was really excited about, it was 1.5 hours long and I had been looking forward to it for 2 weeks. I got up and started getting ready and left Bodhi in bed with Ryan. I was still in the room gathering my things and Bodhi got excited or thought I was leaving the room without him (he follows me everywhere) and jumped off the bed.
We are always so careful with him and what we let him jump off of. We are very cautious with him.
Well the jump off the bed had a loud yelp when he landed and I knew right away something was wrong. I instantly picked him up and held him but it was clear he injured his paw and we needed to go to the vet ASAP. Luckily when choosing a vet I pick one very close to our house and also open 24-7.
I didn’t even bother to brush my hair or put makeup on (rare for me to leave the house doing so), I couldn’t even put on a coat or sweatshirt. All I could do was hold Bodhi close so that his paw was secure.
We arrived at the vet and we were so well taken care of. We received a room almost instantly and Bodhi saw the doc soon after. After a few x-rays were done it was determined that he had 2 fractures in his front paw (I actually thought he dislocated a shoulder the way he was acting.). The vet techs are in love with Bodhi so he was in very good hands and they even gave him a special cast.
We canceled all plans for the rest of the day so that we could give him attention and tell him how sorry we are.
Ryan and I feel so heartbroken over this. We know it’s our fault for letting him on the bed and it was the first time ever too. We are just kicking ourselves over this.
He has a really hard time sleeping because he can’t get comfy and I put a sock over his cast because he was trying to bite at it.
We entertained ourselves by taking selfies through part of the day. I think I have 20 pictures of Bodhi on my phone from yesterday alone. I also bought him new toys and a flatter bed so he can get in and out of it easier. His cast gets caught on everything.
This sleeping picture was one of the best positions for him.
Going outside is a challenge because we a special bag to put on him and then we put a plastic bag over that. Of course we have inches of snow outside right now so trying to keep the cast dry is a challenge. However, Bodhi has been so patient with us as we get him ready to go out, never once has he fought us for trying to take him outside and putting all these things on his foot.
And then our hearts melted when our friends sent us messages for Bodhi.
Baffi says “this too shall pass”
Then Shelby and Henry sent Bodhi some well wishes as well.
Hopefully you had a better start to your new year than Bodhi did. He’ll be in the cast for 8-10 weeks:(
While you are probably thinking re-qualify for Boston or PR in the marathon, you are on the right track with running.
Goal #1: Run 2,500 miles
One of my goals I set was to run 2,500 miles. I used to do this fairly easily up until the IT band monster struck. This year I was finally feeling well enough to push my training a little more and thought I had a good chance at hitting that goal. It’s about 48 miles a week.
After asthma attacks all summer and illness after illness this year (Allergies, colds, bronchitis, strep, and costochondritis) my running goal slipped away. I still managed to PR in the half which I was very happy about. However, my ending mileage for the year was only 1,284.9. I’m sure I may have missed logging a run here or there and probably didn’t log the miles I ran on our honeymoon. But I look at that and it’s only 24.7 miles a week!
Goal #2: Read 24 books
Actually I’ve set this goal for myself multiple times but don’t ever hit it. However, this year I got a kindle for my birthday so maybe that will get me to read more. Don’t get me wrong I read A LOT! I read at work most of the day and I read blogs almost daily so sometimes I just run out of time to read. Sometimes I just can’t read anymore and just want to veg out on some TV time.
This year I made it through 14 books, I keep track of my books in Good Reads. My Mom got me hooked on the House of Night Series so I read books 1-7. I read the Eve series (3 books) which I loved! I read the Kill Order to finish off the Maze Runner Series. I read the City of Bones because I heard the movie is coming out soon and wanted to read the book before the movie. I finished off the Divergent series and read Allegiant, can you tell I like series. I also polished off the last 2 Gillian Flynn novels Dark Places and Sharp Objects, I love how descriptive Gillian Flynn is but I find her books extremely predictable.
So I am not one who makes New Years Resolutions normally. I prefer to set a goal and get to it and once I get that goal I set a new one. So for 2014 my goals are to run 2,500 miles and to read 24 books.
Do you set New Years Resolutions or have any random goals?
Last year I didn’t send out Christmas cards because we were sending out save the dates soon and wanted to save money on postage. I started to feel really bad about not sending them because it seemed we received a record number of cards last year. Must be a newly engaged thing where everyone sends you Christmas cards. So this year I enlisted the help of my photographer friend, Anna of A.Rose Photography to help with my themed Christmas Card. (Go like her facebook page because she is awesome!)
She snapped this adorable picture of Bodhi, which I made a single Christmas card of to send to someone. I can’t say who yet because I mailed it last week and not sure they received it yet.
With the help of Shutterfly I turned it into this card.
Then our lovely photographer snapped this “family” photo of us, just in case my grand idea didn’t work out so great. Spoiler Alert: it came out great!
When we posted this photo on facebook everyone thought this was our Christmas photo for cards. However, we had a little “surprise” up our sleeves. When you use the word surprise everyone assumes you are pregnant and then the rumors started flying.
Luckily, our Christmas card idea came out exactly as planned and even Bodhi got in on the action.
Ryan is a HUGE Christmas Story fan so I was so excited to incorporate that theme into our Christmas cards.
I already have ideas for next years card that might actually top this year.
