Week 2 of Training

I have to say most of my runs last week were kind of sluggish with the exception of some good speedwork on Thursday. However, I am now sick with a sore throat/sniffly nose thingy which might explain why I was so sluggish last week. Cold Cleveland weather has kept me inside for another week. I am hoping to get outside this week but we are getting “The Biggest Baddest Snowstorm of the Winter Season” tonight through Wednesday.

Monday: 6 miles on the treadmill

Tuesday: Speedwork 2-1miles @ 7:15 and 7:20, 1-800s @ 3:20, 3-400s @ 1:28, 1:33 and 1:25, had no motivation on Tuesday which made it really hard to do speedwork

Wednesday: Rest Day/Momocho

Thursday: Speedwork 3-1 miles @ 7:15, 7:06 and 6:58, 3-800’s @ 3:19, 3:16 and 3:12, 3-400’s @ 1:23, 1:22 and 1:18. Probably my best speedwork in months. Hopefully I keep getting faster!

Friday: Worked lated so I skipped my run

Saturday: 6 Miles on the treadmill, 45 min Spin Class and played football.

Sunday: 10 Miles on the treadmill. Last week I did 10 on the tread and it went pretty fast, this week I was struggling but managed to get through (slowly)

Total Mileage: 28 miles (Very low for me)

I also returned my LunaRacer’s and purchased Nike LunarGlide 2’s instead. The LunaRacer’s were really light but really low on the ankle.

No Motivation! Ugh

Overall, I cannot really say that I’ve had a bad week, I have definitely had worse, but the busy week has messed up my running schedule and made me extra tired. I worked late on Monday and Tuesday. So Monday I didn’t get to the gym until 8:30 and then didn’t have dinner until 10.

Tuesday I didn’t get to the gym until 6:30. I know that’s not too late. But I was planning a longer workout and then I didn’t get a good treadmill (I have my favs at Fitworks.) The treadmill I was running on was smaller and my ribs kept hitting the giant red stop button. So in the middle of my speedwork workout the treadmill would stop and I would have to readjust the pace. So I ended up cutting my work out short and did about half of what I had planned. I was really frustrated but happy that I at least did some kind of running. Also on Tuesday I got rub burn under my right arm (why just my right arm and not the left too? I must be running crooked) and my sock slid down and i got a blister on the back on my heel, ouch!

Wednesday I decided to take a rest day to recover mentally and physically and give my rub burns a day off. I usually take rest days on Fridays (um for Happy Hour) but since I worked late this week they are letting me leave early on Friday. So I will have to get a run in on Friday after work but before Happy Hour. So with the rest day on Wednesday I finally went to check out Momocho. And it was amazing and totally worth skipping a workout to relax and unwind. This will def be a place that I go to more often and is my new fav restaurant in Cleveland. I then watched American Idol which I thought was really funny or maybe I was delirious from lack of sleep..and mango margaritas.

So today I decided to look up some funny running things to get me moving and motivated.

Funny Quotes:

“It’s unnatural for people to run around the city streets unless they are thieves or victims. It makes people nervous to see someone running. I know that when I see someone running on my street, my instincts tell me to let the dog go after him.”
– Mike Royko

“I run so my goals in life will continue to get bigger instead of my belly.”
– Bill Kirby

“Running is a mental sport…and we’re all insane!”
– Author unknown

Funny Marathon Signs:

“Your feet hurt because you are kicking so much butt!”

“Run like you stole something.”

“You are NOT almost there.” (seen at mile 1)

And then I downloaded Afternoon Delight. The Anchor Man/Will Ferrel version. Not very good for speedwork but will be something to warm up or cool down to.

How do you get motivated?
